We will present two composers who have become linked very closely over time, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky said of Mozart's music, "It is to Mozart that I am obliged for the fact that I have dedicated my life to music. He gave the first impulse to my musical powers and made me love music more than anyhting else in the world." The concert will feature the orchestra for the first time in many years, foregoing a soloist. It will begin with the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky opera Eugene Onegin followed by Mozart's 35th Symphony, the "Haffner." After intermission, the ensemble for the first time in its history will present one of Tchaikovsky's symphonies, his famous 5th.
